Christmas Favorites

Christmas Favorites_IMGHello there!

I’ve been a bad blogger lately and took a little break while we spent time with our families for Thanksgiving. I am still down in Florida visiting my family and Mark is back in Georgia studying for exams for his MBA and working. Poor thing was also selected for jury duty this week and was picked to be a juror so he has had jury duty Monday-Wednesday this week and his exams are this weekend. He definitely has a full plate but hopefully things will calm down some after this week and we can enjoy December because it is the BEST month of the year, in my opinion.

My birthday is on the 13th and of course Christmas is on the 25th so it should be a fun month. In the spirit of Christmas being just around the corner, I wanted to share some of my favorite Christmassy things with y’all!

DRINKMy love for hot apple cider extends from fall into Christmas. So there really isn’t anything new there. But I do like to switch it up and get the different coffee drinks from Starbucks that come out during December. I really love all of them and am curious as to what the new flat white drink they have tastes like. It always scares me to try one of their new drinks because if you don’t like it it’s a waste of $5 and I’m not about that life.

I will admit that I am still only drinking iced coffee. It is so hot in Florida and I’m not happy about it. I swear I got a tan yesterday while washing my car. I’m excited to go back to the cold weather in GA at the end of the week and finally start with the hot coffee again!

SONGThis is a hard category because I love so many songs, so I’m just going to share a bunch of my favorites. I started listening to Christmas music about halfway through November because frankly I don’t think Christmas lasts long enough. If we could just get like 15 more days of Christmas I think that would be the perfect amount :)

Hallelujah by Cloverton – This song is amazing and sums up the entire meaning of Christmas. I get goosebumps listening to it. My parents were listening to it last night and I knew I had to include it in today’s post. It also reminds me of Shrek…so there’s that.

The 12 Days of Christmas by Straight No Chaser – I heard this on our 7 hour drive down from GA and made Mark listen to Christmas the whole way (that’s love). I had never heard this song before but we were laughing so hard at the “8 maids of milking, they were milking just for me”, I think we were just delirious at that point. Anyways, these guys are amazing and this song is so fun!

Last Christmas by Taylor Swift – This song has always been one of my favorites even back when Wham! was the only artist that sang it.

Please Come Home for Christmas by The Eagles – I think this is my favorite non-traditional Christmas song of all time. I don’t know why  because it’s kinda sad when you think about it, but I love it, so roll with it.

FOODThis is such a hard one to pick just one! There are so many good cookies and desserts this time of year but one of my favorites is Chocolate Cracker Toffee aka Waverly Cookies in our household. These cookies are so addictive. My mom used to make them for her annual cookie exchange and Taylor and I would always get in trouble for eating half of them before the party.

I linked to the recipe from the Make It and Love It blog. I highly suggest you make these if you’ve never tried them…or even if you have.

Chocolate Cracker Toffee...sweet and salty...YUM! The FASTEST toffee you'll ever make! --- Make It and Love ItCANDLEI have yet to buy my Christmas candle this year because I am trying to wait for them to go on sale for $8 and that normally happens mid December. BUT that didn’t stop me from popping into Bath & Body Works and sniffing out the situation. I like quite a few of their holiday candles but Mahogany Balsam is my favorite. We have a fake tree so I need a little help in making our house smell like we have a real tree and this candle does just that! What I love about it is that it doesn’t smell like straight tree but it smells sweet too. It’s hard to describe in words so just go and smell if for yourself ;)

TRADITIONWe grew up with a lot of Christmas traditions in our house and we still continue to do them to this day. One of which was going to pick out our tree the day after Thanksgiving and decorating it. This one has come to an end because we are all in different places for Thanksgiving now that we are older and married. But we spend Christmas together and keep those traditions alive.

Every Christmas Eve my grandma, mom, sister and I make cheese danish and strudel. The strudel is my great grandma’s recipe and it takes all day to make. We have countless videos of the four of us making the strudel and every year we blame each other for the holes that we make in the dough as we stretch it out (I still thinks it’s Grami). It’s so fun to bake together and now our husbands get to join the fun and they make danishes with us. They actually do a decent job…they’re keepers!

We also watch “Christmas Vacation” every Christmas and on Christmas Eve we try to watch “It’s A Wonderful Life” but Taylor and I normally end up falling asleep during it and going to bed early. We also used to sleep in the same bed and try to stay awake to wait for Santa but now we have husbands so that doesn’t really work.

MOVIE  I think my favorite Christmas movie is “Christmas Vacation”. Even though I’ve watched it every year since i can remember (which is 25 times), it never gets old. But we have to watch it with my dad because when he laughs it makes us laugh and that’s just the way you have to watch that movie.

I also love every Christmas movie on Hallmark/Lifetime and now Netflix. I know this is probably cheating but I love Christmas so much it is hard for me not to love every movie about it. I especially love the corny ones with people like Candice Cameron and Haylie Duff in them.

OUTFITChristmas pajamas!! I don’t have any but I’ve always wanted some and I love these from Victoria Secret. They are the Fireside Long Jane Pajama set – I think the Red Aqua Fair Isle is the cutest color scheme.

I am so excited for the upcoming month and all it entails :) Christmas is the hap-hap-happiest time of the year!!!

Fall Favorites

Fall FavoritesBecause we all love fall – and if you don’t, you will hate reading this blog for the next two months – I wanted to do a Fall Favorites post about all my must haves for fall. Feel free to let me know your favorites in the comments, it’s fun to see what favorites everyone else has!

So grab something pumpkin flavored and let’s go!!

I’m sure everyone agrees that pumpkin spice lattes are the typical girl fall drink. And while I’ll admit it tastes comparable to heaven, I think warm apple cider is my favorite. I buy this kind at Target and practically have a cup of it every night.

If I am looking for a fall festive coffee drink, I normally do a pumpkin spiced latte or their new toasted graham cracker. I’m not really a fan of the salted caramel one they have.

“I’ll have a trenta, no foam, five shot, half-caf, no foam, pumpkin spice latte, with no foam at 210 degrees.” – If you can tell me who said this, you’re my new best friend.

I am such a baby when it comes to scary movies that I flat out don’t watch them anymore. We watched the comedy/horror “The Final Girls” with our neighbors the other night and even that scared me. I told Mark I was scared to go home. I’m such a chicken.

So I pretty much stick to the movies for 10 year olds. It’s really a toss up between Hocus Pocus, it’s such a classic, and Halloween town (the first one).

My sweet friend Carrie got me the Autumn candle from Bath & Body Works and it smells amazing!! You really can’t go wrong with any of the fall scents from B&BW but this one smells exactly like you would think fall would smell. This one is so strong and fills up our entire bottom floor with it’s scent.

My favorite fall lip color is actually a liner and matte gloss combo. I first line and fill in my lips with the Essence lip liner in “Soft Berry” and then go over that with the NYX matte gloss in “London“.

You can play around with it and add more Soft Berry if you want the look to be more mauvey/purple or London if you want it more brown.

Pecan pie is where it’s at!

I love all the pies that come with fall – apple, pumpkin, anything with sugar – but pecan pie has always been my favorite.

I could eat Thanksgiving food pretty much all year round. And with all the leftovers, it’s almost possible!

I thought pretty hard about this because it’s so hard to pick just one food item, I feel like they are all a food family and must be kept together. But I narrowed it down to two – mashed potatoes and stuffing.

I pick both of these because I always mix the two together so I’m counting them as one.

There Is Always, Always Something To Be Grateful For. #Quote #Thanksgiving:

Though I sadly don’t own these boots, I think the red Hunter rain boots are adorable and a must for fall (and winter) if you live in a cold area (or rainy).

We have barely gotten into fall and I’ve been in situations a few times already where some rainboots would have come in handy. The red ones are the cutest in my opinion :) These are a bit on the pricey side though, so for now they remain on the “wish list”.

Red Hunter Wellies for autumn.:

I hope y’all have enjoyed reading about some of my favorites for fall. Let me know what fall things you can’t live without!

April Favorites

April definitely brought us some showers, so now I’m (im)patiently awaiting May flowers.

There were definitely a handful (or two) of products I loved all through April and wanted to mention them to y’all.

April Favorites 2015_EDIT

Tarte Amazonian Clay Bronzer | Original Donut Shop K-Cups | L’Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara | Meow Meow Tweet Deodorant | Essence Lipliner “Soft Berry” | NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder Duo

1. Tarte Amazonian Clay BronzerI purchased this bronzer from Ulta about a year ago when it was on sale for $15 – basically 50% off. I used it nonstop when I first got it and then it somehow ended up hidden in my makeup mess. I just rediscovered it when I was cleaning out my bathroom drawers/makeup organizer and was so happy! It can be used to contour, but I like to use it all over my cheekbone because it has a hint of shimmer and I don”t want a shimmery contour – that is not natural. But it is perfect for a sunkissed glow which is perfect for the upcoming months.

2. Original Donut Shop K-CupsThis is a totally random favorite, but it’s just so good I had to share. I am terrible about using our Keurig and tend to just use our regular coffee pot and make 12 cups at a time and refrigerate the remaining coffee for iced coffee the next day. But it makes no sense to have Keurig and not use it so I’ve been pushing myself to use it lately and these are my favorite K-cups to use! So delicious with some sugar, cinnamon and Caramel Macchiato creamer.

3. L’Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions MascaraMascara is a must for me. Even if I am not putting on any other makeup, I always put on mascara. I basically look like the walking dead without it. I typically use the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash mascara but decided to switch it up. I love the applicator brush on this mascara. It really separates the lashes so each individual lash gets coated with mascara. Va va voom!

4. Meow Meow Tweet DeodorantI went on a rant about deodorant back in March and told y’all I was ordered a baking soda free deodorant from a little shop called Meow Meow Tweet. Well I really really love it and feel so much better knowing I’m not putting carcinogens in my pits :)

The only downside to this deodorant is that you have to apply it with your fingers, but as long as you shower on the reg it’s really not so bad.

5. Essence Lipliner “Soft Berry”I never really understood the point of lip liner until I went without it. I didn’t really use lip liner until about two years ago, now I feel naked without it. It somehow keeps me from drawing outside the lines and makes for a much cleaner look. This Essence lip liner is such a pretty mauvey, berry color and looks great alone or with a nude gloss over top. And for $1.49 it just doesn’t get much better.

6. NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder Duo Eyebrows are a huge focal point on your face. The shape of your brows sets the entire mood for your face. They can’t be too arched, too flat, too thick, too thin…there are seriously so many rules for brows. I’m not a particularly hairy person so my brows have never been super full. They aren’t non-existent or anything, but they could use some help. This NYX powder duo helps to fill in any sparse areas and lets you add a little shape to your brows if need be. I use the “blonde” duo, but they come in a couple of other shades to match different hair colors.

Until next time!! :)
